Johan Geldenhuys from Exquisite Crafts cc was employed through Ellis & Associates architects in order to do the coping of a pool and a pool wall as part of an overall landscaping project in Camps Bay in 2009. Bottom line of the story is that Mr. Johan Geldenhuys has not only lied to his client but actually ran away with full payment, founded a new company and despite being a director of Exquisite Crafts never delivered upon his promises outlined in a written guarantee of his workmanship.
Anyone dealing with this person be warned about him, Johan Geldenhuys, and his new company Marengo Stone cc which is run by the same director of Exquisite Crafts cc that did not honor the work guarantee and quality that he received full payment for.
Here we go with an email to him outlining in chronological order the series of events:
- You [Mr. Johan Geldenhuys from Exquisite Crafts] were commission in late 2009 to do the pool wall and pool coping
- I [the client] accepted your terms and conditions that specifically mentioned ‘hairline’ cracks
- The job was completed with delays and quality problems during the job which are all documented by our architects [Ellis & Associates]
- on 27th of November you provided me with a warranty for 6 months including a one week turnaround response time for any problems
- I paid the job in full end of November 2009
- On 3rd of December, the hairline cracks started filling with water, causing dark patches, which I outlined to you in pictures
- On 3rd of December you confirmed in writing that your product will never absorb water or other liquid substances
- On 7th of December you confirmed in writing to send a crew to our house for assessment
- on 31st of December I reminded you of your promised warranty and turnaround time as your team never showed up despite multiple reminders
- On 8th of January our architects sent you an email questioning why you did not show up for the meeting on 7th of Jan scheduled and reminded you to sort out the problem
- After multiple reminders, I informed you on 19th of January that my lawyers have advised to go to court against you unless you stick to the warranty promises made
- On 20th of January I get informed via my architects that you changed company name and partners and subsequently you confirmed that on 1st of February 2010 your new company Marengo Stone cc will come to rectify the problems. You also noted that your company has delivered I quote “unprofessional work and incompetence” unquote.
- We agreed that between 1-5 Feb you would come and sort the problem out. You confirmed in writing on Feb 1st “everything is on track and not to worry, your pool will be sorted out”
- On 2nd of Feb you emailed our architects admitting that your efforts did not work out for whatever reason
- Our architects responded on 4th of Feb saying that this is ‘your’ problem and not ours, and you must fix the unprofessional and incompetent work provided.
- On 7th of Feb upon my return I contacted you again in order to find out what you did and how you are going to fix the problem.
- On 8th of Feb I received an email from someone at your new company that you will contact me on 9th and again you admitted that your efforts did not work, and that you will be providing a solution.
- After asking what they will do, you emailed me saying again that your efforts did not work, but that the ‘guys’ will come and I must tell them that I want them to do, pushing your problems on to my side. I responded saying that I am not a builder and that I paid full price for a proper product and not for something that is not working, and that I am not capable of telling your ‘guys’ what to do.
- On 9th of February you again did not show up on site, but sent me some sub contractors of yourself that came without an appointment and without instructions of what to do. I sent them away as I could not tell them what to do, and they did not know what to do, and you and your office again was unavailable.
- Since that time I have not heard from you or your company again.
- Today, 24th of February, I have found out that your new company (which I did not give permission to) has used pictures of my house and pool under successfully completed projects on your marengo website, see attached screen shot. Your website (including the old Exquisite Crafts website) are being advertised through your email signature of your company.
- on 26th of February you confirm to pay penalty as compensation for the bad work done. Your email states “I will be the better man and pay you the R7159.84 but you are going to have to give me some time to get this money or can your layers arrange a payment plan for me please.”
- no payment received, and then the next letter from Johan Geldenhuys at Marengo Stone: “I Johan Geldenhuys can afford at this moment 02/03/2010 to pay R500/pm till further notice.” Despite that confirmation no payment was ever made.

Marengo Stone - company by Johan Geldenhuys - pretending to have done a job that they never were commissioned for
Johan Geldenhuys has taken full payment for a job that he as a director of Exquisite Crafts took on board with his old company, and then defaulted on a written workmanship guarantee, and then continued with his lies at Marengo Stone cc where he pretended not to be responsible for this job (albeit having the job pictures advertised on his website), and finally not paying up the compensation money owed that he offered for me [the client] not going to court.
Anyone dealing with this person be warned about him, Johan Geldenhuys, and his new company Marengo Stone cc which is run by the same director of Exquisite Crafts cc that did not honor the work guarantee and quality that he received full payment for.

Where did you find this info from? I’ve read a few articles like this but haven’t seen this info before.
Johan Geldenhuys is obviously rotten to the core. He and his girlfriend (Dawn) defrauded me out of R5,500 via me paying them a deposit for work never done last year. This was when he was trading as Marengo Stone. He closed down and ran away to JHB last year – but guess what – he’s back. Located in Bellville trading as Target Investments. See the website http://www.targetgc.com – although his name is not here this is him. He is aware I have tracked him down and will now be laying a charge of fraud against him.
